he experience and excitement are overflowing with memories of exposing the Arts and National News for the past thirty-five are more years. When I moved to Texas back in 1983 from California, It was a time in my life that I was looking for change and my mother moved to San Antonio, Texas, after re-marrying, which was a door opening opportunity for me to explore the Lone Star State.

Now how I got involved in the media was by chance, sitting at the bus stop on the corner of Commerce St. and Hackberry, deep eastside of San Antonio. As I sit there, checking out the scenery I notice a black owned business behind me which caught my attention, it was one of the oldest black newspaper in Texas, the San Antonio Register, established in 1931 by Valmo Bellinger, after his retirement Edwin Glosson purchased the newspaper in 1979 and took over the as Editor and publisher of the newspaper. As it featured stories of the city, it was the community’s news outlet for the small and large black owned businesses. There was a connection nationally and internationally with national press releases stemming from covering stories on politics, entertainment and local community news. I saw and learned that this was something that I would really enjoy with the educational and fun experience of exploring the media world. Now back then it was more manual work of typesetting, cutting and layout, running to the press before deadline, but the opportunity to cover historical events in the city gave me the chance to meet celebrities from film, sports and political side.

After working for the Register twenty-two years I learned firsthand the business, all awhile loving the experience and all the lifelong friends I met along the way, but after visiting Houston on several occasion, I discovered a whole new arena of entertainment and big city life and decided to step out of my comfort zone and move. Now I didn’t find a job in the line of work I was use to and done various professions that just was not feeling that void, and as I just ran my course in life I came in contact with one of Houston black publication the Observer and made a connection with the staff, which opened the door of me making the decision to start my own publication after sitting down to talk shop with the editor, whom also suggested that I start my own also.

The beginning of Jamsource Runway Magazine established 2001 for the sole purpose of exposing the entertainment industry in the Houston and surrounding area, then Nationally soon after with discovering untapped talent in some of the nation cities. As the publication grew reaching a diverse audience by exposing country, blues/soul, zydeco, jazz, hip-hop rap and rock as my taste for music goes across the board with delight as it set the mood throughout the day. The entertainment industry covers a wide playing field and soon exploring into the fashion industry and incorporating it into the publication was one that opened a pandora box of fashion, and those that create it from designers to promoters from around the States to Africa. As Jamsource Runway Magazine has a passion for supporting the community it has evolved in to participating in community event with the non-profit organizations around the city, and also organize an annual Back-to-School and Christmas Drive each year with now partnering with No Sister Left Behind, 501c Non-Profit Organization, The BOSS Women, Inc. Organization, C. Allen Productions, Inc. and Melody of Hope.

I could go on forever with details on my journey creating Jamsource Runway Magazine, but it would go on and on, I just want to say that my adventure continues on discovering and exposing the Arts In All It’s Form to the readers. I would like to thank all those who have help make it possible a Dream that still in progress now for Eighteen Years.

Transitions of the Brand

JAMSOURCE Magazine logo found on many of the earlier publications. Ms. Baker always reached out to various fashion intrests by featuring them in the Jamsource Magazine. She came up with the idea of creating her own fashion brand, ( The Runway Fashion Source ).

The Runway Fashion Source embodies fashion artists of all walks of life from the novice to the professionals. It was then Ms. Baker decided to combine the two in her publication. She had developed different categories ideas under the fashion heading.

Beautiful Bold Curves, Bold & Distinqished, Tu Fli Revolution and Pre TEENS Growing With Style are some of the fashion shows Ms. Baker spear-headed. Fashion Designers, Models, Make-Up Artist, Photographers, etc were able to show their talent which opened doors for them to participate in other shows given by Fashion Agencies.

You might see the initials (JSRW) Jamsource / Runway Magazine. However there was a need to combine the two and bring it under one single brand which is present to the right. Ms. Baker has successfully opened doors for artists local and abroad. If you are giving an event and would like it to appear in the JAMSOURCE / RUNWAY Magazine see below.
